The "Classical Piano Concerto (CPC)" series, derived from Hyperion's very popular "Romantic Piano Concerto (RPC)" series, is dedicated to discovering piano concertos of the classical era. The fourth volume is a collection of piano concertos by Leopold Kogelf (1747-1818), a composer of the same generation as Mozart who was active in Vienna in the 1780s. A versatile pianist, music teacher, and publisher, Cogelf also served as court composer after Mozart's death. Although highly acclaimed in Europe at the time, Cogelf's elegant piano concertos have been overshadowed by Mozart and have been forgotten today.Also of note is the resilient performance by the London Mozart Players, who have recorded many works by Mozart and his contemporaries, including Kogelf, in Chandos' "Composers of Mozart's Generation" series.
