The second album by a young Korean soprano who conveys the mystery of life and the courage to live, The songs are selected with a very personal approach. Alongside operatic masterpieces by Massenet, Drieve, Humperdinck, Orff, Rossini, and Verdi are works by contemporary composers such as Luke Howard, Cecilia Livingston, Woo Hyowon, and Bernat Vivancos. Recorded in Genoa, Italy with the Orchestra of the Teatro dell'Opera Carlo Felice, conducted by Jochen Rieder. There is also a performance with Canadian mezzo-soprano Emily D'Angelo. The album opens with a work by Australian composer Luke Howard. The piece is newly named "While You Live," incorporating lyrics from "Seikilos' Epitaph," which is said to be the oldest piece of music in the world.Vocal Ice, by Catalan composer Bernat Vivancos, is a vocalise inspired by Michelangelo's Pietà. Also sung are the middle movement of "Breath Alone," written for Hera by Canadian composer Cecilia Livingston and premiered at Carnegie Hall in March 2023, and "Requiem" by Woo Hyowon, also from Korea. The traditional Korean string instrument, the ajen, is used for accompaniment in this piece. In Gretzky's Symphony No. 3, the prayers of a Polish girl captured by the Nazis are sung, and death-related scenes are selected from Licinio Refice's "Cecilia," a work about the martyrdom of a saint, Rossini's "The Siege of Corinth" and Rossini and Verdi's "Othello. Verdi's "Ave Maria" has the same prayer lyrics sung to the famous "Meditation" from Massenet's "Thais."The popular "Evening Prayer" from Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel" and the "Flower Duet" from Dreib's "Lakme" can be heard in duet with Emily D'Angelo, and "Heart on a Balance Bar" from Orff's "Carmina Burana" can be heard in beautifully rendered singing!
