Description:
Release Commemorating the 45th Anniversary of Domingo’s Met Debut Plácido Domingo, who has led the global opera scene and continues to enjoy immense popularity. Even now, at over 70 years old, he continues to perform as both a singer and a conductor. Domingo made his Met debut in 1969, stepping in at the last minute to replace the suddenly ill Franco Corelli as Maurizio in *Adriana Lecouvreur*. Since then, he has continued to appear on the Met’s stage for 45 years, performing in 48 of the 143 roles in his repertoire—ranging from Germont in last season’s *La Traviata* to Neptune in this season’s *L’Isola Magica*. This album is a best-of compilation of famous arias drawn from live recordings at the Met spanning from 1969—when Domingo had just made his debut there—through 2013. From his signature Verdi on “CD 1,” to Italian opera—including Puccini on “CD 2”—and French and Russian works through to Wagner on “CD 3,” this album is brimming with the charm of Domingo’s passionate and deeply resonant live vocals. This is an authorized reissue restored from the Metropolitan Opera’s original source recordings. Sony Music
