A Wind Work Full of Spanish ColorJoaquín Turina (1882-1949) left behind a fascinating body of Spanish piano music, second only to Albéniz, Granados, and Falla. Here, the Asar Ensemble, formed in 2010 by a group of young Spanish wind players from his native Spain, offers a colorful performance of his arrangements for woodwind quintet. Interestingly, the program includes a variation on a theme by Joaquin's grandson, composer José Luis Turina, on a theme by his grandfather, a work for two pianos from 2009 that the composer himself arranged for woodwind quintet for the Asar Ensemble in 2015. This is a valuable addition to the Spanish wind repertoire. King International.
