Description:
This 1988 debut album by SATAN, one of the legendary bands of the N.W.O.B.H.M., was released under their new name PARIAH in 1988-1989. It's a cult classic masterpiece that prominently showcases the ferocity of old-school thrash metal, now reissued by HAMMERHEART. This album marked a culmination of SATAN's evolution under that name, signaling the full-fledged start of their activities under the new moniker. It further refined the idea of "fusing NWOBHM and thrash metal" presented on SATAN's 1987 album 'Suspended Sentence', shifting towards a faster, more aggressive direction. Michael Jackson continues on vocals, his raspy, raw delivery lending an intense tension throughout the album. The lineup remains largely unchanged from the SATAN and BLIND FURY eras, preserving the band's core. The twin guitars of Russ Tippins and Steve Ramsey are overwhelming here too, anchored by slashing yet melodic riffs while exploding with NWOBHM-derived twin harmonies and lyrical solos throughout.The contrast is remarkably natural, achieving a high-level balance between aggression and melodic beauty. Production-wise, a clear improvement over the previous work is evident: the guitar's edge is sharp, and the vocals remain consistently clear without ever being buried. A tough, heavy texture permeates the entire album. Furthermore, Graeme English's bass and Sean Taylor's drums provide outstanding stability, showcasing the band's exceptional sense of balance as a whole. Every track charges forward at high speed and with aggression, showcasing the essence of PARIAH/SATAN. This is a timeless, unique heavy metal work created by the same core members. (RED LP)
