The Dutch old music ensemble "Camerata Tragetina" has been active for about 50 years, focusing on Dutch music from the Middle Ages to the early Baroque, but in this album the ensemble extends its scope to the early 19th century. The French Revolution changed the face of Europe, and the period around 1800 was also full of conflict, social change, and political upheaval for the Netherlands. This album is an extremely rich collection of Dutch revolutionary songs, popular songs, and works by patriotic composers from such a period.Although the Dutch song titles on the album are hardly recognizable from the album itself, the album includes "Festive Song to Commemorate the Planting of the Liberty Tree at Dockum" (track 14), which uses the same melody as "La Marseillaise," a milestone revolutionary song also known as the current French national anthem, "Sa Ila" (track 12), which is also one of the most popular French revolutionary songs, and "Freut euch des Lebens" (track 13), a German song that is also popular in Japan under the title "Like a Cloud".
