The Italian vocal and instrumental period ensemble Cantica Sinfonia, led by master singer Giuseppe Malletto, who has created numerous masterpieces such as the "Dufay Trilogy" and the masses by Buenoit and Isaac, has been awarded the 2017 Record Academy Award. La Compagnia del Madrigale's Monteverdi "Evening Prayer of the Virgin Mary" (OGCD922807), but this is the first new album by "Cantica Sinfonia" alone in nearly five years. The long-awaited new recording features a capella polyphony works written by Josquin des Prez, the greatest master of the Flemish school of Renaissance music, and instrumental works with organ, fiddle, harp, and sackbut. The Cantica Sinfonia's pure harmonies and heartwarming performances of beautiful motets in praise of the Virgin Mary, such as Stabat Mater, Ave Maria, and the motet "Vultum tuum deprecabuntur" (All the rich among the people have His face), divided into seven sections, are sure to please the most discerning of audiences.
