Finnish epic folk metal band BATTLELORE’s third album, originally released in 2005, is being reissued on vinyl for the first time. This album further develops the symphonic and epic musical style established on their previous release, *Sword’s Song*, and is regarded as one of the defining works of the band’s early career. The lyrical worldview of this album continues to be based on the fantasy world of J.R.R. Tolkien’s literary works, depicting the history of Middle-earth, its characters, and the conflicts between races as themes within the songs. The “Third Age” in the album title refers to the era in which the story of *The Lord of the Rings* unfolds, and attempts to musically express Tolkien’s grand mythological system can be seen throughout the album. Musically, the album is characterized by a symphonic arrangement built on heavy guitar riffs and majestic keyboards, featuring dramatic compositions that highlight the contrast between male growls and female clean vocals. In addition to the epic metal elements present in previous works, the emphasis on folk-inspired melodies and grand choral arrangements has evolved into a sound of even greater scale, which is a major appeal of this album. Thanks to this musicality, the album is regarded as the culmination of the early trilogy that began with their debut *Where the Shadows Lie*, solidifying BATTLELORE’s fantasy-oriented metal style.
