Description:
The second release from "GlauxRecords," an up-and-coming early music label committed to uncompromising historical accuracy and aesthetics! The long-awaited modern-day revival of a collection of "Dialogues" for soprano and baritone that captivated the nights of late 17th-century Naples. A fierce contrast of conflicting passions, brought to life by a dynamic ensemble and star singers from the Italian early music scene! Stefano Alesi, Ph.D. in Musicology, and Andrea Friggi, a unique intellectual keyboardist who also holds a Ph.D. in Greek Philology. "GlauxRecords," a cutting-edge Dutch label co-founded by this intellectual duo—arguably the most scholarly pair in the European early music scene. Grounded in dialogue with academic scholarship and driven by a relentless commitment to deepening their repertoire, their second release features a rare program including the world premiere recording (and first modern revival) of vocal works that enchanted the nights of late 17th-century Naples. In late 17th-century Naples, composers such as Antonio Farina, Giovanni Lorenzo Minei, and Giovanni Cesare Netti were producing some of the most popular vocal works of the time. This album features a collection of cantatas in the “Dialogo” (dialogue) form for soprano and baritone (bass). Dialogues based on mythology and allegory—such as *Venere e Marte* (Venus and Mars) and *Vizio e Umiltà* (Vice and Humility)—along with passionate romantic entanglements, are depicted with a vivid palette of emotions. These works, in which conflicting passions—such as love and war, pride and despair—clash fiercely, serve as “musical postcards” that vividly convey the vibrant atmosphere of Naples at the time to the listener. Soprano Valeria La Grotta, who also participated in the previous release (GL001), a collection of works by Paolo Rolli, possesses proven skill and a beautiful, crystalline voice. Joining her is Mauro Borgioni, a highly accomplished baritone who has earned immense trust through his recordings of Baroque opera and sacred music and is well-known among many early music enthusiasts in Japan. The vibrant conducting of Samuel Lastucci, who leads the up-and-coming ensemble “I Musici del Gran Principe,” breathes new life into these little-known Neapolitan masterpieces. Tokyo M Plus
