DAVID GRUBBS formed BASTRO with CLARK JOHNSON in the late 1980s, and the young OHN MCENTIRE played drums on their last Music Concrete-inspired album, SING THE TROUBLED BEAST. 1991, JOHNSON left to pursue his studies and was replaced by BUNDY K. BROWN, The trio of GRUBBS, BROWN, and MCENTIRE recorded the album "THE SERPENTINE SIMILAR" (1993). Bridging the gap between the post-hardcore of SLINT and the jazz and minimalism of TORTOISE, this album is a milestone in early post-rock.
