Description:
Music for French trombone played on a rare 19th century instrument! The origin of the trombone is very old, dating back to around the 15th century, when the sackbut, the ancestor of today's instruments, was created. For more than 500 years since then, the basic structure of the trombone has remained the same, and it has been used in diverse genres of music, including orchestra, jazz, brass band, and brass band. This album features works from France in the 19th century, a period of spectacular development for brass instruments, including the development of the valve as a new mechanism, and the active use of the trombone in orchestral works by such great composers as Berlioz, Thomas, Gounod, and Saint-Saens, In the 19th century, the trombone was increasingly highly regarded in France. The creation of the trombone department at the prestigious Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris also led many contemporary composers to leave many solo works for trombone with fortepiano, piano, or organ accompaniment to demonstrate the technical and expressive power of the trombone, creating a repertoire that remains important to this day. This was a period that gave birth to a large repertoire that continues to this day. Francesco Verzillo, a composer-trombonist from Genoa, Italy, studied at the Niccolò Paganini Conservatory and was awarded the ACADA-ENDAS prize at the Città di Genova wind instrument competition.Focusing on solo trombone works, he has been active in the field, performing with organ, piano, and chamber ensembles. He is well versed in the history of the instrument, using copies of the Baroque period, German Romanticism, etc., as well as original instruments of the period in his performances. This is an excellent project that is packed with attention to detail, including original works, Verzillo's own "Poem," composed with an awareness of French Romantic works of the late 19th century, and an arranged version of Carmen, which is often featured on other instruments as well.
