Matti Marin on the Beautiful World of the Piano: Piano Stories Finnish pianist Liszt-Matti Marin (b. 1976), whose artistic and technical mastery was highly acclaimed in *The Art of Piano Transcription* (ABCD240)—which features works such as Czerny’s “Figaro Fantasy”—presents a new album themed “Stories Without Words.” The album features a collection of piano pieces from the 19th century to the present day, imbued with a romantic and medieval atmosphere. “The Shadow over Innsmouth” by Finnish composer Juho Mietinen was inspired by the short story of the same name by American author H.P. Lovecraft, known for his macabre and fantastical works. The story depicts a creature—part human, part fish, and part frog—that inhabits the seaside village of Innsmouth in Massachusetts. The program features works by Mendelssohn, Beethoven’s *The Tempest*, Liszt arranged by Stradal, and Chopin’s ballades and the “Revolution” Symphony.
