This is her third album. Produced by bassist and producer Rashaan Carter, with special guests including Shabaka, Courtney Bryan, Niah, Josh Johnson, and more. While on tour, harpist Brandy Younger, bassist and producer Rashaan Carter, and drummer Alan Mednard heard the term "gadabout" = "a carefree hedonist who is always on the move, looking for fun in any situation. The word became the theme of the tour and seemed to describe their mission. Sharing a 20-year history as trusted collaborators, the three were constantly seeking and finding joy through music, art, food, and new experiences, both on and off stage.For Younger, the word "gadabout" has been a healing force. Over the past year, she has faced personal challenges. That is why the concept of "gadabout" reminded her that "life happens to everyone, and that it is essential to pursue brilliance in the midst of hardship. When I set out to write a song that represented happiness, 'Gadabout Season' seemed like the perfect title," she said. Gadabout Season, her third album for the legendary Impulse label, is her most personal and exploratory album to date. Nearly all of the songs were produced by Brandy Younger herself, resulting in a thought-provoking and imaginative work. The album reflects a journey of searching for meaning and beauty in life's most complex moments, ultimately leading to a deeper sense of self. Musically, 'Gadabout Season' is more creative and a bit more intellectual than my other works." Brandy Younger is known for her innovative interpretations of harp legends such as Alice Coltrane and Dorothy Ashby.He continues to make music in his own unique compositional style, while carrying on the words of his predecessors. Self-taught in composition, he instinctively draws from a hybrid of influences: jazz, classical, old-school R&B, and hip-hop. He says, "This composing process has kept me thoroughly honest. I'm not going to hide behind someone else's work." She says.
