Junko KaiharaIn the midst of the Corona disaster, which has yet to end in 2021, we decided to create a jazz album of an unprecedented form and asked pianist Yuya Wakai to compose an original piece. This is a ballad in Japanese that expresses the thought, "I wish there was an angel who would always come to our rescue and not abandon us in our time of need. For (Disc 1), we chose a jazz standard and added an original to it. At first glance, it may seem that I have put together completely different kinds of music. However, the common feelings that run deep in the depths of each song are linked to our hearts at the time of the Corona Disaster. I hope you can feel that. (Disc 2) was a simultaneous collaboration of my talk and Mr. Wakai's piano.A two-disc jazz album that includes a talk might be considered different and "strange. However, I feel that a new style of jazz album could be created in a different environment, such as the Corona Disaster. ＜In "Bebop Lives," there is a passage that says "It began as an experiment. In these words, "Then and Now" is an experimental jazz album of the Corona Disaster. The members of the band, Yuya Wakai on piano, May Kusui on bass, and Shunsuke Unno on drums, not only had great technical and musical sense, but also their sincere and warm personalities created a friendly atmosphere during this period of recording. I hope that one day we can laugh and talk about the fact that all the members including Akihito Yoshikawa, the recording engineer, were tested for the antigen of the new type of corona the day before the recording.
