Toasaves (meaning "home" in the dialect of Antwerp, a port city located along the Schelde River in northern Belgium) is an ancient music/folk music project founded in early 2021 by Tristan Dreessens, an oud player/art director/arranger from Belgium. It has a very unique concept of combining European medieval music with classical music of the Ottoman Empire and traditional music elements of the East. In addition to medieval songs that have been passed down from generation to generation in obscurity, the new work, "Zwerver" (Dutch: Zwerver), is the result of SSW Van de Velde, who has breathed new life into some of the oldest existing ballads and litanies (a form of prayer in the Christian Catholic Church) in Wandswerp. The album is composed of the folk repertoire and original numbers of Vanes van de Velde (1937-2008), as well as traditional songs from Afghanistan and other oriental countries. (C)RS
