The voices of women who lived in France under the absolute monarchy La Nereide, an ensemble of three singers at the forefront of the European classical music scene, presents a well-balanced collection of 17th century French court and church music, with two "misereres" at the core. The two "misereres" are accompanied by organ in the church music and theorbo, lute and gamba in the aières de couleurs, which add a touch of flexibility to the three singers. The Yères de Coeur group were all written during the reign of Louis XIV, the Sun King, and here the three female voices are sung in unison (the Yères were performed in quite flexible formations at the time, so this interpretation is not an aberration). Lalouette, the author of the unusual "Miserere" premiered in 1726 at the famous Concert Spiritual, was a pupil of Lully, the royal music director of Louis XIV, and Clérambault, the author of the other relatively well-known "Miserere", emerged during the lifetime of Louis XIV, and was the son of the late king's secret marriage to Clérambault, the author of another relatively well-known work, "Miserere," was an organist at the Royal Academy for Girls in Saint-Cyr, which he ran with Madame de Maintenon, to whom he was secretly married.This carefully crafted program shows how women were greatly involved in the refinement of art in France during the Baroque period, when masculine artistic styles were developed and society seemed to be dominated by male power, even though their position was restricted. The overlapping of the three high range voices in unison and in harmony is truly exquisite, making this an unforgettable recording that will make you relive a moment of prayer in the old days.
