This album celebrates the 85th anniversary of the birth of British composer Howard Blake, best known for his music for the film "The Snowman," including "Walking in the Air. His works, which range from symphonies, concertos, oratorios, solo piano pieces, and film scores, have been performed in concert halls and on stages around the world. This album features a variety of works, including "Concert Dances," which Blake himself conducted while playing the piano, a suite from the soundtrack of the 1987 film "One Month in Summer," and "Symphony No. 1," which was composed in 1967 and revised in 1990. Paul Daniel, former music director of the English National Opera, conducts the English Northern Philharmonia in a lively performance of Blake's sensitive and expressive score for "One Month in Summer.
