Description:
Croatian composer Ivan Seitz. The opera "Nikola Šubić Zrinski" is based on the true story of the 16th century Croatian general Zrinski, who led a small unit of troops against a large Ottoman army in 1566, risking his life to defend the fortress of Sighetovar. The "Hero's Tale," in a style that combines the Italian operatic tradition reminiscent of Rossini and Verdi with Viennese operetta, concludes with "U boi, u boi (Assault!)," which Seitz composed ten years earlier as a Croatian patriotic song. The melody is well known in Japan. The melody, well known in Japan as well, is arranged for a magnificent male chorus and sung in high spirits. This album, the first full-length recording of "Nikola Šubić-Zrinski," features excellent singers, including Robert Kollar, who has sung the title role many times in the past. The Rijeka Opera Chorus is a highlight of this work, in which one-third of the story is sung by the chorus. Naxos Japan
