Ernst von Dohnányi (Hungarian name: Dohnányi Ernée), known as the father of conductor Christoph von Dohnányi, is a Hungarian composer who left many profound works in the 19th century Romantic tradition, which have been increasingly performed and recorded in recent years. The pantomime "Pierrette's Veil" on this album is one such work, in which Dohnányi aims for a fusion of story and music that is different from that of ballet. The entire work is rarely performed, but the "Wedding Waltz" in the second act is still very popular, and is regularly featured in request programs on European radio broadcasts. This time, the work was performed in its entirety by Ariane Matiak, a remarkable female conductor.
