Their 2024 album *Romance* received universal acclaim worldwide, earning perfect scores from publications such as *The Guardian*, *NME*, and *Rolling Stone UK*, and topped the charts in the UK, Ireland, Scotland, the Netherlands, and earned two nominations at the 67th Grammy Awards that same year. It’s also still fresh in our minds that their Japan tour in support of the album was a huge success. As with the previous album, *Dopamine Chamber* was produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Gorillaz, Depeche Mode). This album follows *Romance*, released in 2024 and certified platinum in the UK, and marks a definitive departure from the band’s early guitar-driven sound, moving toward a colder, stranger, and more artificial sound. “Marianne,” a dazzling and exhilarating introduction to the album’s world, draws some inspiration from the 2024 Netflix eight-episode thriller miniseries *Ripley*, based on Patricia Highsmith’s *The Talented Mr. Ripley*. This song explores themes of escapism and hedonism, functioning as a seductive anthem about heading toward oblivion—or escaping it. Enveloped in a glittering arrangement, Glian Chatten sings: “You should come here and spend this year / Come with me / Because I can make you disappear.” Yet beneath that seductive sound lies a heavier question: If living with full awareness of one’s own ruin were the only choice, to what extent would a person willingly surrender their imagination? *DopamineChamber* emerges like a constellation rising from the billowing breath of smog. It is a work in which powerful ballads and anthemic melodies shimmer through the thickening mist. In a world teetering on the brink of collapse, this album explores how pleasure transforms amid crisis—and what is revealed when we pursue it. Throughout the album, Fontaines D.C.’s Glian Chatten (vocals), Carlos O’Connell (guitar), Connor Carley (guitar), Connor Deegan (bass), and Tom Cole (drums) navigate the tension between fulfillment and fear.
