＜The fifth compilation of "60s R&B Girls' Heaven" covers a wide range of chart hits and cover songs by young R&B girls full of charm! This CD contains 20 songs from chart hits ranging from "Hello Stranger" (#1 on the R&B charts in 1963) to "I'll Make Him Love Me" (#1 in 1967), and covers of R&B standards such as "Stand By Me" and "What'd I Sa" that are full of charm. The album includes 20 songs. In addition to the hit tunes from the Atlantic era, the tatters shown in the six cover songs are also impressive. The band released records for about 10 years from 1962 to 1973. The period when the songs were on the hit charts was even shorter, a net five years from 1963 to 1967. There are 10 songs in the Pop category (HOT 100) (14 if you include those outside the top 100), but only 6 in the R&B category. This may be due to the fact that the chart was temporarily suspended for about a year or so after Barbara's breakthrough, and also because the chart gradually increased from No. 30 to No. 40 to No. 50 to No. 60, but not up to the top 100 (it only reached the top 100 on July 14, 1973). In Barbara's case, I don't see a case where she had a hit only in the R&B category, and I think her idiosyncrasy is expressed in the fact that she was always linked to the Pop category.It is not a rich black sound, but more like girl pop (pop-soul) with R&B feeling. Her singing style seems more like a popular singer than an R&B singer, but this seems to have been the style she wanted to pursue, as described below. ～Excerpts from the commentary by Toru Ueshiba
