Ivan Lepsic, who succeeded Ulf Schirmer as principal conductor of the Munich Radio Orchestra, presents his first album for BR KLASSIK, a collection of two works with "Gregorian chant" as their motif. The opening work, "Requiem" by French composer Duruflé, is a meditative work that derives most of its motifs from Gregorian chant, although it is based on the work of his predecessor, Fauré. It demands a gentle and beautiful sound, with a mezzo-soprano rather than a soprano set as the soloist. Although the work is often performed by small chamber orchestras, here it is performed by a full orchestra. Respighi is also known as a composer who was interested in Gregorian chant and church melody, and in this concerto, he successfully reproduced medieval church prayers by using the violins and orchestra as a choir. It is a nostalgic work with religious overtones. The dignified tone of the violin by Henry Lauderdalez is a delight to the ear. Naxos Japan
