Della May, the pinnacle of female bluegrass bands, delivers her first album on Compass Records—and it's her masterpiece! Her Grammy-winning vocal power, harmonies, and instrumental prowess are undeniable! From Americana tunes reminiscent of early Dixie Chicks to energetic bluegrass and indie-folk-inspired songs, the band showcases their immense talent! Produced by Alison Brown, with guest appearances by Mary Blagg and others. Della May is a contemporary bluegrass band formed in Boston in 2010. After several lineup changes, the current members are Kimber Ruddick (fiddle), Celia Woodsmit (guitar), Vicky Vaughn (acoustic bass), and Avril Smith (guitar), all of whom also sing. They released their first full-length album, 'I Built This Heart', in 2011, funded through crowdfunding.In 2013, they received their first Grammy Award nomination for Best Bluegrass Album for their album This World Oft Can Be, released on Rounder Records, and were also selected as IBMA's Best New Artist. Since then, they have released consistently: 'Della Mae' in 2015, the EP 'Butcher Shoppe' in 2018, 'Headlight' in 2020, and 'Family Reunion' in 2021. In collaboration with the U.S. Department of State, they have performed in over 30 countries worldwide, spreading messages of gender equality, LGBTQ+ rights, and workers' rights across the globe.
