In pursuit of the inner “qualities of consciousness (qualia),” the composer embarks on an endless journey to the far horizon. Tetsuji Emura: Works—*Qualia of the Horizon* A collection of orchestral works by Tetsuji Emura, a self-taught prodigy who won first prize at both the Lutosławski and Besançon International Composition Competitions and was highly regarded by Toru Takemitsu. His compositional techniques, grounded in philosophical thought and a scientific approach, gave rise to a unique sonic universe. Featuring his representative work “Qualia of the Horizon” and “Intextura No. 5”—which won first prize at the Lutosławski Composition Competition—this collection masterfully embodies Tetsuji Emura’s profound and rich intellectual world. He was known not only as a composer but also for his writings, including the co-authored book *Thinking About Music* with neuroscientist Kenichiro Mogi. *Tetsuji Emura passed away suddenly on June 11 at the young age of 47. His death came far too suddenly, just as the CD was about to be released. We offer our deepest condolences.
