JD McPherson is a singer/songwriter/guitarist from Oklahoma, USA. He was also a touring member of Robert Plant/Alison Krauss, and now releases his first album in six years, Nite Owls JD McPherson's latest album, Nite Owls, is a unique and brilliant piece of work. This is his first album release since the critically acclaimed SOCKS, a 2018 Christmas classic. Over the past five years, McPherson has consistently written new music while simultaneously touring with Alison Krauss and Robert Plant.With Nite Owls, JD wanted to try something new. He wanted to take inspiration from multiple eras and styles and incorporate them into his sound. The initial idea for the record," McPherson says, "was that the Ventures of the late '60s were the session band for New Order's first record. And the idea came to fruition. Nite Owls seamlessly connects the sounds of Bowie and Alan Vega while providing the signature vintage garage rock sound.Sunshine Getaway," "The Rock and Roll Girls," and "I Can't Go Anywhere with You" sound like Chuck Berry jamming with Buddy Holly. Songs like "Nite Owls" and "Don't Travel Through the Night Alone" remind me of the British factory sound. The throwback sound of the only instrumental, "The Phantom Lover of New Rochelle," layers Dick Dale with Link Wray.With Nite Owls, McPherson takes inspiration from various genres of the past and combines them to evolve his own unique sound.
