Gidon Kremer's first documentary film follows his activities around the world and examines his 70-year life journey and the historical environment of the former Soviet Union. The film focuses on Kremer speaking about himself and his thoughts in German, as well as his interactions and performances with a variety of people. Filming takes place around the world, with scenes appearing in his hometown of Riga, Latvia; Moscow, where he trained; Paris, where his eldest daughter lives; and even Tokyo, where he will perform Weinberg's concerto with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra in 2017. The scene in which he and Arvo Pärt stroll together, discussing in Russian their fears and expectations for future musicians, is a heartwarming glimpse into the state of mind of these aging maestros. In a casual conversation with his daughters, he shows the face of a kind father. The central theme of the work, however, is Weinberg, a composer that Kremer is currently passionate about.The film depicts the performance of the violin concerto with the Russian National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yurovsky in Moscow after a 37-year absence, and includes a Russian-speaking Yurovsky and a moving first meeting with Weinberg's widow when she visits his dressing room after the performance. The recital at the Gogol Center will be preceded by a performance of all 24 preludes, which will be accompanied by a simultaneous projection of photographs by Antanas Stokus, a photographer from Lithuania in the former Soviet Union who was a contemporary of Weinberg. The symposium will be held after the performance. In the symposium after the performance, a heated discussion develops among those who have resonated with the experience, and it is clear that Kremer is still traumatized by his fear of the Soviet regime, which makes him think deeply about it. It is also understandable why he is so interested in Weinberg's music now. An interesting scene is in Tokyo. The calm expression on his face at the temple he visits between concerts shows that his once razor-sharp senses have reached a state of maturity. King International
