The album released in 2019 by a project founded by Iraqi-Israeli musician Dudu Tassa, who aims to reinterpret classical Arabic songs, is now available on vinyl! Dudu Tassa, one of Israel’s leading rock stars, is the grandson of Kuwaiti musician Daoud Al-Kuwaiti. Daoud gained widespread fame across the Arab world from the 1930s to the 1950s as part of the duo “The Al-Kuwaiti Brothers” with his brother Saleh. Dudu Tassa and the Kuwaitis served as the opening act for the Coachella Festival in 2017 and were also selected as the supporting act for Radiohead’s U.S. tour. The Al-Kuwaiti Brothers were among the greatest composers and musicians in Baghdad during the first half of the 20th century. Dudu Tassa draws on some of the Al-Kuwaiti Brothers’ recordings, developing them into his own sound and reconstructing them for a contemporary audience. *El Hajar* was originally released in 2019. This reissue follows in the tradition of his self-titled album and *Ala Shawati*, and includes a newly reconstructed version of *El Hajar*.
