Born in Nagasaki in 1997, guitarist Aiyo Yamashita received her musical education from her father, Kazuhito Yamashita, and her mother, Keiko Fujie, and has been performing around the world since childhood. She made her solo debut at the age of 13 in Turin, Italy, and is now a new-generation guitarist based in Berlin who performs internationally. Since her 2024 solo tour, she has garnered significant attention in Japan, where she has been hailed as a “master of the new era,” and has performed with orchestras such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. She is also a semi-finalist of the 2017 ARD Munich International Music Competition and the recipient of the 2019 German Guitar Prize, among numerous other international competition awards. In 2026, she received the 35th Idemitsu Music Award. She is also actively engaged in chamber music both in Japan and abroad, earning high praise for her wide-ranging repertoire, which includes her own arrangements. This album is a concept album centered on the theme of “the silence of the night.” The delicate tones woven from Aiyo Yamashita’s guitar captivate the listener from the very first note, unhesitatingly drawing them into another world. Her unique interpretive style—filled with hope, tenderness, and melancholy—fully conveys the charm that symbolizes her musicality. The album journeys from Dowland and Rudneff—who evoke death and silence—to Martin and Britten, who reflect both the stillness and anxiety lurking in the darkness, and finally concludes with Dawn by the Swiss composer Hans Haug. The gentle tones of the strings herald the dawn, softly signaling the end of the world of dreams and darkness and the beginning of a new day.
