Groobe Conducts Herzogenberg’s “The Nativity of Christ” A rare, previously out-of-print recording is being reissued at a special price! ★Heinrich von Herzogenberg (1843–1900) has been the subject of a growing reappraisal in recent years. One of the rare recordings featuring Herzogenberg’s works is now being reissued at a special price! Since the original release (catalog number: 98574) is already out of print, this reissue is truly welcome news. ★Herzogenberg, a German Romantic composer, is also known for his close friendship with Brahms, with whom he exchanged numerous letters. Although he composed works across a wide range of genres throughout his life, after the death of his beloved wife, he became increasingly drawn to Protestant sacred music. The oratorio “The Nativity of Christ,” composed around 1894 toward the end of his life, is a grand Christmas oratorio featuring soloists, a choir, and an orchestra. Accompanied by the solemn sounds of the pipe organ (a positive organ is used on this album) and the orchestra, the soloists and choir sing triumphantly of the Savior’s birth. Although the work is enveloped in a solemn atmosphere overall, Part 3 features a memorable pastoral oboe solo, and the piece can also be described as one with many accessible melodies. Although more than 20 years have passed since the recording, it remains in excellent condition.
