Description:
Lausanne Vocal Ensemble and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande perform Honegger's "King David," a gem that celebrates the sublime. It was originally composed by Honegger as music for a stage production based on the "Old Testament" written by the Swiss poet René Mora. In 1921, Honegger gave a successful premiere at the Theatre de Jola, and the work became one of his early masterpieces. The original version of the oratorio, which Honegger himself revised as a symphonic psalm (oratorio) in 1923, is now the main performance. Here we are performing the original version with a small orchestra. It is an unusual composition with brass and woodwinds, piano, celesta, harmonium, percussion, cello, and contrabass.Consisting of 27 pieces in three parts, it depicts the life of the Old Testament hero King David. Honegger's skillful orchestration, the colorful Swiss Romande Orchestra, and the beautiful and transparent sound of the Lausanne Vocal Ensemble add to the sublimity of the music. King International
