Margaret Price (1941-2011), a famous Welsh soprano, sings Schubert's "Winterreise. Today, it is not unusual for a female voice to sing "Winterreise," but in the 1990s it was still a rarity, and when it was sung, it was often by a mezzo-soprano. Price's recording of "Winterreise" was a pioneering recording of a soprano singing the piece. Price was highly acclaimed as a Schubert lied singer, and her beautiful voice shines through in "Winterreise" as well. And when the shadow and heaviness that are inevitably stronger when sung by a male voice are removed, we are reminded that "Winterreise" is a song about a young man, no matter how despairing his lost love may be. This CD was released around 1997, and although the jacket cover and barcode remain as they were at that time, it has probably been newly reproduced in recent years. Tobu Shoji Co.
