This is a collection of works by Thierry Esche, a composer and organist born in 1965. Esqueche graduated with distinction from the Conservatoire de Paris and is one of France's leading composers, having received numerous awards, including the André Jolivet, Boulanger, and Georges Enescu prizes, and having published over 120 works, he was named in 2017 the French Classical Music Victoire Award's " Composer of the Year. He is also the current organist at the church of Saint-Etienne-du-Mont, where Duriflet was the organist. In 2013, he accompanied the Orchestre de Paris conducted by Paavo Järvi on a tour of Japan, playing the organ solo in Saint-Saens' "With Organ". This album contains four orchestral pieces by Eskesch from the past few years. The "Baroque Songs" from 2007-14, which give the album its title, are transformations and developments of Bach organ chorales and thematic fragments from Beethoven's works, while the "Clarinet Concerto" from 2012 was recorded with Paul Mayer, the first performer, as soloist.The 2009 "Memories" is an adaptation of his own string quartet, written while he was a resident composer with the Orchestre National de Lyon, and features musical material from the first movement of Beethoven's "Waldstein". The album closes with the composer's own arrangement of the symphonic suite "Claude" from the opera "Claude" premiered in March 2013 at the Opera National de Lyon. Alexandre Bloch, music director of the Orchestre National de Lille, who is attracting attention in France as "the young conductor with the most passionate energy," gives a precise and beautiful performance.
