The long-awaited new recording by German Lieder evangelist Christian Gerhaherl is a major song cycle by Brahms, "The Romance of the Beautiful Magellone." Gerhaherl has only recorded "Four Solemn Songs" in Brahms' song cycle, so this recording of a song cycle by Brahms, a mainstream composer of German Lieder along with Schubert, Schumann, and Wolff, is truly long-awaited by Lieder fans. The Romance of the Beautiful Magellone," based on a poem by German Romantic poet Ludwig Teich, is the only attempt by Brahms, who never wrote an opera in his life, to combine music and drama. Originally published in France in the 15th century, the story of a knight of unknown author was translated into German in the 16th century and passed down to the people, which was then adapted and published by Thiek. This album will include only the song parts sung by Gerhaherl from the previously released "version with recitation" (8898531102-2).Gerhaher's flexible voice and Huber's superb piano alone make this work a perfect and wonderful world.
