Description:
This 13-CD boxed set contains all of Sviatoslav Richter's 1960 recitals at New York's Carnegie Hall, beginning with his Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2 on October 15, 1960, at Orchestra Hall in Chicago with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Reinsdorf. Richter's three-month U.S. debut tour, which began with a performance of Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2 with Reinsdorf and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Orchestra Hall in Chicago on October 15, 1960, and ended with a solo recital on December 28, 1960, at the Mosk Theatre in Newark, NJ, not only created a sensation in the American music world, but also brought to light a new generation of musicians who had previously been shrouded in the veil of the Iron Curtain, and were enigmatic. Richter's three-month U.S. debut tour, culminating in a solo recital at the Arc Music Theatre, not only created a sensation in the American music world, but also brought into the spotlight the mysterious presence of Richter, who until then had been shrouded in a veil of mystery, and made his reputation worldwide. In particular, a series of five solo recitals at Carnegie Hall from October 19 to 30 strongly impressed the audience with Richter's tremendously broad repertoire, from Haydn and Beethoven to Debussy, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, and Prokofiev. These five solo recitals were recorded live at the initiative of Skyler Chapin, then Columbia's A&R producer, and nine LPs of the recordings were released. RCA, eager to counteract Columbia's move, recorded three additional shows in New York and Newark live in stereo at the end of the tour, and the complete recordings were finally released publicly in the CD era. The Columbia recordings also quickly disappeared from the catalog and were rarely re-released on LP, making them rare and sought after by Richter fans around the world, but they were released in a limited edition in 2015 in the "Svyatoslav Richter - The Complete Album Collection" (2017 These recordings were first officially released on CD for the first time from the original analog masters in Sony Classical's collection in the limited-edition "Svyatoslav Richter - The Complete Album Collection" in 2015 (now sold out), revealing the full extent of his tremendously powerful and delicate pianism that overwhelmed audiences in the United States. This 13-CD box set includes 11 CDs of live recordings at Carnegie Hall from the above-mentioned "Sviatoslav Richter - The Complete Album Collection," as well as two CDs of the Great Moments at Carnegie Hall, first publicly released in 2016 in a limited edition This will include two CDs of the all-Beethoven program from December 23, 1960. The all-color booklet includes a track listing with detailed recording data, an essay written by Gino Francesconi, architect and director of the Rose Museum (Carnegie Hall Historical Museum) (European text only), and rare photographs of the period.
