Theodor Kurrenzis' repertoire is considered baroque and classical, but in fact it is wide-ranging, and he has previously won a Record Academy Award for his Shostakovich symphony. The latest recording by Kulenzis and his hand-picked Musica Eterna is, surprisingly, Stravinsky's troubled "Rite of Spring," which opened the door to contemporary music. This recording must have been a major undertaking for Kulenzis, who says that he began his career conducting this piece in Moscow in 2002, before Musica Eterna was formed. The album is definitely a great success, and it is a great pleasure to hear him perform with the orchestra. This album is sure to change the reception of Kurrenzis in Japan. 24-page booklet included.
