The new album is the 18th album by Bruce Springsteen, the boss of the rock world, after a two-year hiatus. This is Springsteen's 18th original album (after 2 years since "Wrecking Ball" in 2012), featuring the best songs he has written in the past 10 years and the most important songs that have only been performed live in the studio. Recorded in New Jersey, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Australia, and New York, the album features members of the E Street Band as well as guitarist Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) and other players. In addition to playing guitar, Tom Morello duets on "The Ghost of Tom Joad" on this album, and Springsteen has described him as "my poetic god, pushing the rest of this project to another higher level. (Tom Morello joined Springsteen and the E Street Band (filling in for Steve Van Zandt) on their Australian tour in March 2013.) Clarence Clemons, who died in 2011, and Danny Federici, who died in 2008, also appear in what Springsteen calls "some of our best unreleased work from the past decade."
