The debut album from AveyTare and Geologist of Animal Collective is now available! A warm instrumental album where soft acoustic sounds intertwine with hallucinatory and euphoric electronic tones CrozBoyce is an instrumental duo featuring Dave Portner (AveyTare) and Brian Weitz (Geologist), core members of Animal Collective. This debut album, *CrozBoyce*, was created by the two—who have been producing original music for nearly a quarter-century—based on their long-standing friendship and trust. The album features nine tracks that blend electric and acoustic string instruments, synthesizers, and percussion, with mixing by Josh Dibb (Deakin) and mastering by Taylor Deupree. Production began in early 2023. Based in North Carolina, Portner recorded guitar motifs and sent them to Weitz in Washington, D.C., who then added electronic sounds, rhythms, and audio processing before sending them back—the songs evolved through this back-and-forth exchange of files. Despite being geographically distant, the intuitive dialogue between the two—who have been making music together for many years—has produced a sound that feels completely natural. The album features a diverse range of sounds, from “Hanging Out With a Blueberry Pop,” which has the gentle exhilaration of an afternoon relaxing by the river, to “Towson Acid,” with its drifting, hallucinatory electronic sounds, and tracks imbued with a tension that seems to reflect the atmosphere of these uncertain times. Soft acoustic strums and colorful electronics overlap, painting a picture of emotions like humor, anxiety, hope, and friendship without words. Part quiet meditation, part celebration of the joy of sharing time with close friends, this album reflects the very nature of the relationship between the two musicians who continue to create music across the distance. It is a free and warm instrumental album that expands while staying close to each listener’s own landscapes and emotions.
