Schubert / Goldmund Quartet

Description:

Formed in Munich in 2010, the Gortmund Quartet uses the Paganini Quartet, a renowned set of Stradivarius instruments loaned by the Nippon Music Foundation beginning in 2019. The Gortmund Quartet's new work, which has a wide range of expression from energetic and powerful ensemble playing to delicate lyrical expression, consists of Schubert's intense string quartet "Death and the Maiden" and a collection of string quartet arrangements of Schubert songs. It is surprisingly powerful from the very beginning, "The Demon King. In the arrangement of the songs, the viola stands out in terms of register, so you can enjoy the sound of the Stradivarius viola, said to be one of only 10 in the world. <The Gortmund Quartet was formed in 2010 by Florian Schetz (1st violin), Pincus Att (2nd violin), Christoph Vandoorie (viola), and Raphael Palatore (cello), all of whom studied at the Munich University of Music. She studied with Günter Pichler of the Alban Berg Quartet at the Queen Sofia Conservatory and with the Artemis Quartet in Berlin, and participated in master classes with quartets such as Hagen, Borodin, Belcher, Ysaÿe and Cherubini. In 2014, he won the first prize at the Schoenfeld International String Competition; the following year, in 2015, he received the Young Artist Award from the State of Bavaria; in 2018, he won the second prize at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition; the same year, he won the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition; in 2019, he was named a European Concert Hall Association Selected as a Rising Star; in 2019, the Nippon Music Foundation loaned him a Stradivarius "Paganini Quartet". CDs are available from Berlin Classics and Naxos.
