Franz Konwitschny and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.
Description:
The latest reissue project of the original ETERNA analog tapes in Japan, the third SACD hybridization! The best recordings and masterpieces from the heyday of analog recordings are brought back to life with unprecedented sound! The latest SACD reissue of Konwitschny's "Final Recordings". The superb performance is revived in the best sound quality! World's first SACD release! Mastered only in the analog domain and converted directly to DSD! Three tracks from the ETERNA (Berlin Classics) master recording of Franz Konwitschny's (1901.8.14-1962.7.28) famous last recording are now newly released on SACD. These recordings, which were made about a month before his death, are rare recordings of one of the finest performances of Konwitschny with the Gewandhaus Orchestra, which he devoted so much to the postwar reconstruction of the orchestra. In particular, Brahms' Symphony No. 1 is still considered one of the most famous recordings of this piece, and it still has a large number of fans. This is a must-hear performance that conveys the beauty and splendor of this piece in a profoundly elegant manner. It is also noteworthy that the horn solo is played by Peter Damm, who is just 24 years old and has been the principal horn soloist since 1959. This time, the latest technology has been used to convert the high-quality analog master tapes directly from the home country to DSD (SACD layer) and high-resolution PCM at 96kHz/24bit (CD layer, later converted to 44.1kHz/24bit). The sound quality of the analog master tapes has been preserved as much as possible. The tapes are in excellent condition, and the golden sound of the past has been fully reproduced, and the SACD conversion is highly effective, allowing you to enjoy the sound quality of Klaus Streuben's masterful recordings to the fullest. Enjoy these once great performances in unprecedented quality." Karl Zuske, once concertmaster of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, said, "The Gewandhaus of the Konwitschny era had the best sound. The sound inscribed here is indeed an important piece of evidence of this. The sound of the Gewandhaus cannot be described simply as the traditional sound inherited from Haydn's time; it is like a never-ending fountain, an abyss. Konwitschny, who was once thought to be a modest musician, is in fact a tremendous alchemist. Naoya Hirabayashi (music critic)"(1/2)
