Description:

Rachmaninoff's complete piano concertos recorded by Pletnyov on the 150th anniversary of Rachmaninoff's birth, recorded live at the first concert after the formation of RIO! Conducted by Kent Nagano! The second album by Mikhail Pletnyov's newly founded Rachmaninoff International Orchestra (RIO) is now available. The first album was a recording of orchestral works, "Tchaikovsky: Suite 'Swan Lake' & Sichedrin: Carmen Suite," conducted by Pletnoyov, and this time, the complete works for piano and orchestra by Rachmaninoff, who will celebrate the 150th anniversary of his birth in 2023 (four piano concertos, Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini). The piano is of course Pletnyov, and Kent Nagano is the conductor. This was the first public performance of the orchestra since its formation. Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943), a leading Russian composer, was an excellent pianist and composed many piano works. There are a total of five concerto works for piano. They were written in different periods and have their own unique character. This disc contains all of these works and traces the evolution of Rachmaninoff's writing style. Pletnyov's performance brings out the full character of each piece. The fresh pianism of No. 1, written for his final examinations while still a student at the Moscow Conservatory, is a perfect example of Rachmaninoff's masterpiece. The second is Rachmaninoff's masterpiece and one of the most famous pieces of piano music as a whole. Op. No. 3, which boasts the highest degree of technical and expressive difficulty. No. 4, which has a solemn atmosphere and mature romanticism different from his previous works. Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini," which uses the theme from No. 24 "Theme and Variations" of Paganini's "24 Caprices," has a sweet and delicate atmosphere typical of Rachmaninoff. He is a great admirer of Rachmaninoff's music, and has worked on his works as a conductor and pianist with great dedication. In 2023, he will give a concert of the complete works with the East Philharmonic Orchestra.<In 1990, he founded the Russian National Orchestra (RNO), which he actively conducts as conductor and music director, giving not only concerts but also making numerous recordings. In 2022, he founded a new orchestra, the Rachmaninoff International Orchestra (RIO), based in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The orchestra is named after Rachmaninoff, a composer who had to leave his homeland, which Pletnyov had long been influenced by and loved. The orchestra members consist of former members of the RNO and outstanding musicians from the East and West, including those from their home countries of Slovakia, Austria, and Ukraine.
