Album commemorating the 150th anniversary of Rachmaninoff's birth! Master musician Inon Barnatan arranges the symphonic dances for solo piano! Many performers have released new recordings to commemorate the Rachmaninoff Year (2023), and Inon Barnatan has recorded the Symphonic Dances and Vocalise in Barnatan's arrangement for solo piano! He made his orchestral debut at the age of 11. He has studied with Victor Delevianko, Maria Curcio, Christopher Elton, and Leon Fleischer. During his three-season tenure with the New York Philharmonic, Barnatan performed concertos and chamber music with the orchestra, expanding his activities around the United States. Barnatan's appeal lies in his colorful piano tone. The London Evening Standard called him "a true poet of the keyboard instrument, with refinement, precision, and assured delivery," and BBC Music magazine said, "A superb performance.The orchestra's sharp musical talent, overwhelming insight in interpretation, and elegant pianism are all in near-perfect balance. Symphonic Dances" was composed in 1940. It was dedicated to the Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Eugene Ormandy, and premiered by the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1941. The work contains quotations from his own Symphony No. 1 and "All Night Prayer" and uses a variety of instruments such as saxophone, tam-tam, and xylophone, but Barnatan performs it colorfully on a single piano.
