Description:
LP of hit songs Descarga, Salsa, and Boogaloo by legendary Colombian accordion virtuoso Anibal Velazquez reissued on LP with two rare bonus tracks! A super heavy mix of descarga, salsa, boogaloo and more by legendary Colombian accordion virtuoso Anibal Velasquez, who was part of the classical cumbia movement and was known as far as Cuba and the US. Here are eight dance floor hits, plus two bonus tracks, "descarga loca" and the 1972 version of "mambo loco," making this a must-have for your collection.180gLP.Anibal Velazquez is one of Colombia's most innovative and prolific Costeño musician. He grew up listening to Cuban music and local rhythms, which led him to tinker with and transform the beats and melodies of regional music he encountered in his hometown of Barranquilla in the 1950s and 60s. This album is a perfect example of this musician's wanderlust and restless creativity.A pioneer of the adventurous mixing of rhythms, genres, and styles that was taking place in Barranquilla and other parts of coastal Colombia at the time, Velázquez was, in hindsight, extremely bold in his attempts to combine the music and instruments of his native country with the styles of other Caribbean countries. At the time of this album's production in 1968, few Colombians were willing to record sessions of accordion-based descarga, guaracha, bugarú, guajira, guaguanco, and mambo, and in that sense Velázquez was a pioneer among other artists and records that Velázquez should be recognized as a pioneer among other artists and records. The album opens with an intense and captivating descarga, reminiscent of the jam sessions of Tico Alegre and Fania All Stars, with guaguanco bass lines, Cuban-style piano, and timbales solos. However, the accordion and caja appear throughout, giving the album a "Sabor Colombiano" sound that is distinctly different from the sounds of New York or Havana. The album also features Velazquez and Fuentes adding the piano, an essential part of the salsa sound. The overall impression is of a loose, improvisational jam session, as the genre term "descarga" suggests. This album is just one of many records that Velázquez has made heavily influenced by Cuban and Puerto Rican influences, but it is perhaps the most consistent and well-recorded, and is only one of several of his records featuring prominent pianos playing in the salsa style, which is why it is and is extremely sought after by collectors. This reissue includes two additional bonus tracks, making it a must-have item in that it adds depth to an album that was originally too short!
