The Sixteen's new series, Purcell! Volume 2 is a collection of welcome songs for King Charles II! The Sixteen's new series of "Works for Royal Occasions" by Henry Purcell, a master composer and conductor of the Royal String Choir, the resident composer and conductor of the Royal Court Chorus, and the manager of the Royal Instrumental Chorus, is now available in a new volume. Purcell's career as the permanent composer and conductor of the royal string choir, the custodian of royal musical instruments, and the organist of the court chapel, among other important positions, brought him to prominence and fame with his "Welcome Songs" and "Ode" to be performed at royal functions and ceremonies upon the king's return to the capital. Composed for Charles II, who, after dissolving the English Parliament in 1660, ascended the throne in 1661, marking the end of the Republic and the beginning of the Restoration of the Monarchy, "Now greet the Almighty King's Agent, Z. 340" was one of Purcell's first court odes, and a representative work that would define his subsequent successes. It is known as one of the masterpieces that determined his subsequent success. Along with "Palestrina," "Victoria," and "Handel," "Purcell" is synonymous with The Sixteen.Expect to hear Purcell's masterful singing by the world's finest choir representing the UK as of 2018.
