Description:

Lotto & LSO's latest disc, the third in the Panufnik Legacy Series!Lotto has been the principal guest conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra since March 2017. Previously, there has been the "Panufnik Legacy Series" (I: LSO 5061, II: LSO 5070) and "Homage to the Young Debussy" (KKC 9417/ LSO 3073), and now comes the third installment of Panufnik! Polish-born Andrzej Panuchnik has spent the second half of his life in England, where he has lived for half a century. Not only was he a composer closely associated with the London Symphony Orchestra, but he is also known today for his special celebration of greatness through the LSO Panufnik Scheme, in which promising young composers are selected each year to present their works with the help of Kamila's widow. The program will again be led by composer Colin Matthews, known for adding "Pluto" to Holst's "The Planets"; Ayanna Witter-Johnson, a unique composer who works not only in classical music but also in R&B; Evan Campbell, who writes music using graphic notation; award-winning jazz composer Sevanne Horrocks-Hopayan; Korean-born, London-based Dong-Hoon Shin, who has received numerous commissions from orchestras; and Alex Shin, a composer, improviser, guitarist, and more. Dong-Hoon Shin, a Korean-born, London-based composer who has received numerous commissions from orchestras; Alex Roth, a composer, improviser, guitarist, and more; Matthew Sargent, who has written a seven-episode work; Patrick Giguere, a popular composer in North America and Europe; and Cambridge's own Patrick Giguere, who is popular in North America and Europe; Sasha Sheen, who studied music and poetry at Cambridge and Harvard; Bethan Morgan-Williams from Wales; Michael Taplin, who specializes in large-scale orchestral works; Benjamin Ashby, who has won numerous awards; and Joanna Lee, who also works in opera for children. The program includes world premiere recordings by Joanna Lee and others. François-Xavier Lhoto, who has been conducting the orchestra since its inception, has endorsed this project. This year's collection features a wide variety of works by a wide variety of composers, and the outstanding sense of taste, drive, color, and balance that only Roto can provide make this a highly enjoyable piece of music.
