2018 Performance at the Lyric Opera of ChicagoMaster choreographer and director Neumeier's "Orfeo and Euridice "Founded in 1954, the Lyric Opera of Chicago is one of the three major opera houses in the United States, along with the Metropolitan Opera and the San Francisco Opera. This video shows the 2018 Chicago Lyric Opera production of Gluck's "Orfeo e Euridice," a work that premiered in 1762 and became a banner for opera reform. The Paris version was adopted for this production, with many ballet parts, and Orfeo, sung by a castrato in the Vienna premiere, was rewritten as a tenor. The highlight of this production is that world-renowned choreographer John Neumeier has choreographed, directed, staged, costumed, and lit the entire production in collaboration with the Chicago Joffrey Ballet. The Paris version has many orchestral parts, but Harry Bicket, a leading figure in the field of British classical music, has taken a precise approach to classical music, and his charming performance, and ballet dancers dance in the unchoreographed parts to express Neumeier's world in all its fullness. The role of Orfeo is played by Russian tenor Dimitry Kolchak.Kolchak's high, silky tones and graceful appearance were a test of her abilities, and she performed Orfeo's anguish beautifully. Andriana Cushman, as Euridice, expressed Neumeier's direction with her body and beautiful, supple voice. And Lauren Snouffer as Amore, the god of love, supports them with her steady singing.
