In 2013, Wagner's bicentennial was celebrated with a commemorative concert in his hometown of Dresden. Dresden was an important place for Wagner. Wagner spent his childhood and adolescence in Dresden, and his production of "Rienzi" at the Semperoper in 1842 was a great success, and the success of the production immediately earned Wagner recognition, leading to his appointment as chief conductor of the Dresden State Opera Orchestra. This release features a spectacular concert on May 21, 2013, the day before Wagner's birthday, featuring Staatskapelle Dresden's Thielemann and Jonas Kaufmann, a tenor singer recognized worldwide for both his acting and singing abilities. This is a remarkable concert by the greatest Wagner conductor and singer of our time.
