Janacek's "The Macropulos Affair" Janacek's "The Macropulos Affair" (The Secret Affairs of Macropulos, Macropulos), which made quite a splash at the 2011 Salzburg Festival, is now available on Blu-Ray and DVD! This opera, based on a play by Karel Čapek, tells the story of an extraordinary heroine who has survived for over 300 years after being used as an experiment in her father's development of an immortality drug. By adding small glass-fronted rooms on both sides to the main stage in the center, and by introducing a mysterious lady and an old woman, Martaler succeeded in bringing out the raw critical spirit from this story, which sometimes gives an abrupt impression, and made us realize that "The Macropulos Affair" is a work that sharply confronts us with a problem. The "Macropulos Affair" is a work that confronts us with a sharp problem.Among the singers, Angela Denoke, who sang the heroine, Emilia Marti, was outstanding and highly praised. The men surrounding her are also of a high standard. The performance by Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra is superb, making this a very fine Janacek performance from an international perspective. There are very few images of "The Makropoulos Affair," and this is, of course, the first time it has been released on Blu-Ray Disc. Please enjoy this skipping performance in clear video.
