Born in 1974 in Basel, Switzerland, Djimon Gaudenz was Principal Guest Conductor of the Odense Symphony Orchestra in Denmark from 2010 to 2013, where he earned a reputation for his light, clear-sighted, fresh music. 2018 saw him become General Music Director of the Jena Philharmonic, a position that has raised the standards of this historic city's He has greatly raised the standard of the orchestra in this historic city. Both of the two Mahler pieces here are masterful performances that showcase Gaudenz's abilities well. The music is always clear and never heavy, but never analytical or cold, and moves forward in an airy manner.
