Ella grew up surrounded by sound in London, where her father's collection introduced her to Queen, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones, and she grew up listening to Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Etta James. She then moved to Australia, where she encountered many musicians. She decided to sail with the pirates, and while singing at the bow of the ship, she decided that music was the path for her.Fascinated by the music she encountered in her travels in the US and Europe, she was drawn to Love, Serge Gainsbourg, Karen Dalton, Vashti Bunyan, Catherine Riberio And Alpes, the masters of Tropicália, and exotic 50's guitar, Absorbing the esoteric sounds of The Beatles and refining their eclectic mix. The freedom to write songs outdoors has always been Ella's virtue. She writes songs that are both poignant and fragile, uplifting and celebratory. She perfects sounds as broad as her influences and experiences, music as beautiful as her surroundings. And she uses the complexity and subtle nuances of sound to infuse her music with both light and darkness.
