Nilo Calacristi is a member of the "Gomarang Brass", a brass quintet formed in 1999 by the most famous Italian brass players, and has been the principal horn player of the San Carlo Opera Orchestra and the Giuseppe Verdi Opera Orchestra, and was highly praised by the great master Zubin Mehta. Nilo Calacristi's solo album is now available from Tactus, a long-established label in Bologna, Italy. The album is a good project featuring works by 20th century Italian composers in a variety of styles, performed on horn and piano.The program includes Rossari's Fantasy based on Verdi's opera, a melodically beautiful Romance, an early work by Scriabin, a Ballade in two movements composed by his friend Tedesco for Calacristi's 50th anniversary, utilizing warm horn tones, and a passion-filled Salsa Fantasy, and to close the program, the theme from the movie "The Godfather Part 2" will be sung cheerfully.
